Below I provide a step-by-step tutorial showing how easy it is to make salt scrubs. This project uses the Sweet Suds Salt Scrub Recipe provided at FreeBathRecipes.com (this is another of my websites).
The great thing about the sweet suds recipe is that you can color and fragrance your salt scrub with any colorant and fragrance you desire. Using one simple recipe, you can create many different types of scrubs! The finished scrub leaves hands feeling silky smooth and refreshingly clean. I have used this salt scrub for years, and even guests rave about how good it makes their hands feel. Try it, you’re absolutely going to love it!
Note: This recipe may be used to make products to sell at Craft Shows if proper credit is given to the recipe creator (me). The following credit (you may use small font is you like) must be printed on the label of the finished product if you wish to resell this scrub. “Salt Scrub Basic Formulation Developed By Maria Wilkes of Craftlets.com. Additional Additives Developed By ??” Put your own name in the ???. This shows your buyers that although you didn’t come up with the actual basic formula, all additives that provide the added goodness was developed by you. This is the proper way to give credit for the basic formula, while still showing that it was you who completed the formulation by adding additional fragrances, colors or other additional additives you may choose to add.
If the idea of giving credit insults you, then please understand that you do not have permission to resell this product although you may provide this product as gifts for your loved ones.

Step One: Combine the Babbasu and Jojoba oils and cocoa butter in a pan and heat the oils on low heat until the cocoa butter is fully melted.

Here’s an illustration to show the oils after the cocoa butter has melted completely.

Step Two: Once the cocoa butter has melted fully, add your soap shreds to your heated oils and increase the heat to medium. Do not set your heating source too high or you will burn the shreds, ruining the scrub. I use an electric stove, and heat my shreds on the number 6 setting. Heat until the soap shreds have fully melted.

Here we see the shreds melting. If you’ll notice, a slight bit of foam is building on the edges. This is completely normal. Continue heating your shreds, stirring every 10 to 15 seconds. If it starts foaming out of your pot, your heat is too high.

This is what the mixture looks like after heating for 3 minutes. Notice the foam increasing. This again is normal, the foam is the melted shreds. As you can see, the shreds still have not melted fully so I will heat and stir some more.

Now after about 8 minutes of heating, we see the shreds foaming in the center of the mixture as well. This is good, this shows that our melting is almost done. There’s a lot of foam now with a few unmelted shreds still left in the pot.

Your soap shreds are fully melted once the pot is completely full of foam as illustrated in the image below. Move your soap mixture off the stove, and onto a counter so that you can complete your scrub. Be extremely careful, this mixture is EXTREMEMLY hot.

Step Three: Next add your sea salt and stir the mixture well. The salt will help cool the mixture somewhat, but it’s still extremely hot so be extra careful while stirring.

Your basic salt scrub is now completed! Wasn’t that easy? Below you will see how it looks without added colors or fragrances. It’s tinted yellow due to the cocoa butter, but this is ok. You can add lemon or floral fragrances without adding a colorant, if you like, since the yellow product is absolutely pleasing. Lemon Verbena works well with this yellow tint.

Step Four: Now add your fragrances and desired colorant. Here I have added 2 tablespoons of Stress Relief FO, and 4 drops of green food coloring. You will need VERY little colorant to color your salt scrub, simply mix 1 or 2 drops at a time until you get the color you desire.

Step Five: Mix well until your colorant and fragrance is mixed completely.

Step Six: Spoon into an attractive container, let cool completely and then enjoy!
Here I am using an 8 Oz quilted jelly jar to store my scrub. The recipe will provide enough salt scrub to fill two 8oz jars and a bit left over for a scrub ball (click here for instructions on how to make the scrub ball) or you can fill five 4 oz jelly jars.
Recommended selling price: 8oz jar of salt scrub for $6.50 4oz jar of salt scrub for $3.50
